The NTFS of NT4/W2K/WXP/WXP64 supports HardLink functionality, but physically can not be created by the command ln POSIX, which comes with Windows resourcekit. Even if orders with POSIX, physical can be created via the command prompt, which is a sort of mess for a large number of files.
The Link Shell Extension implements an extension of Windows Explorer shell, so that physical crossroads, and SymbolicLinks can comfortably be created by right-clicking on a selection of one or more files.
