SMPlayer intends to be a front-end for MPlayer, from basic features like playing videos, DVDs, VCDs and more advanced features like support for MPlayer filters and more.
One of the most interesting features of SMPlayer: it remembers the settings for all files you play. So you start watching a movie, but you have to leave … Do not worry, when you open this movie again, it will at the same point you left, and with the same parameters: the audio track, subtitles, volume.
Other SMPlayer 0.6.3 features:
* Configurable subtitles. You can choose the font and size, colors and even subtitles.
* New audio track. You can choose the audio track you want to hear. Works with AVI and MKV. And of course with DVDs.
* The search for the mouse wheel. You can use your mouse wheel to move forward or backward in the video.
* Equalizer video, you can adjust the brightness, contrast, hue, saturation and gamma of the video image.
* Speed manifold. You can play 2X, 4X … and even in slow motion.
* Filters. Several filters are available: deinterlacing, post, noise … and even a karaoke filter (voice removal).

* It is multiplatform. Binaries for Windows and Linux.

What’s New in SMPlayer Version 0.6.3:
* Two fixes for Windows Vista. Today, IPv4 is used by default (connection networks are faster). And now he really uses “GL: yuv = 2: PBO Force: ati-hack” default video output driver. Note: This mode can give problems with some graphics cards (ATI especially) if you try another gl variants, or DirectX.
* (Linux) Adding a patch to a black screen problem when you use Compiz.
* Added an option to select the number of threads that MPlayer use for decoding (only works for MPEG-1 / 2 and H.264 videos).
* Added the option to disable the audio equalizer. Seems to be necessary to use the S / PDIF.
* Added options to increase / decrease the rate of 1% and 4%. This allows movies to play 24 frames per second at 25 frames per second speed and vice versa.
* Fixed: sometimes the playlist is not displayed. Added a workaround for the problem.
* Added some checks to prevent accidents when selecting tracks subtitles.
* (Windows) Adding a new sub-menu Video-> screen to select the screen that displays video using DirectX.
* Smplayer.ini settings have been reorganized into several sections. (This also means more of your preferences will be lost and you have to reconfigure smplayer new).
* Added an option to mirror the video. And now, it is also possible to turn back and subtitles with the image.
* Added a new series of shortcuts (sda.keys), which can be loaded into the editor shortcut in the preferences.
* Added two new translations: Arabic and Kurdish.
