There are moments where you just want to listen to music on your computer / portable and you want to display (LCD) of your notebook to remain off while the door is always open. Although there is a small amount of notebook manufacturer that provide this simple option to turn off the computer when the LCD not in use, many do not. I own an HP DV2799 Special Edition notebook, while it is a great notebook in almost every way, it still lacks a button to turn off the screen (LCD) whenever I want. This is true not only for this notebook, but also many new notebooks and costly.
This leads me to developing my own small application that turns off my notebook LCD with just one click. I wrote this application in C # using Microsoft Visual Studio 2008. Its essentially a simple console application that uses a dll (User32.dll) files from Windows using System.Runtime.InteropServices namespace and then calls the function.
I share this small and useful application with all of you as a Freeware. You are free to distribute and use this application. I tested this application on Windows Vista. Please let us know if it works on earlier versions of Windows.

Thank you redmond pie (if thats your nickname). I appreciate alot for your contributions to notebook users around the world, like me. Its really useful and Yes it works on XP pro sp3. I am using a fujitsu siemens esprimo mobile in which of all its nice features it lacks the button you mention…i use to keep the LCD shut. Knowing that the hinges have its life span (no matter how well built it is) I accidentally googled into your site. Again thanks alot.
Many thanks for this handy utility. I had TurnOffLCD and the only thing I did not like about it was the open DOS window when one resumed by a key other than Enter. This version gets rid of that, and the only thing one notes is a brief DOS window as the monitor goes off–a fair situation.
Many thanks for your efforts to save energy! (And shame on MS/Vista for not having an easy way to handle this itself!)
And for those of you who want to avoid the DOS window that flickers on: if you have a shortcut to the program, right click on the shortcut, chose properties, and under Run, choose Minimized; now the DOS window doesn’t appear and only a taskbar button briefly appears as the monitor goes off (which you easily can miss, at that).
Again, many thanks!
thanks, just what i needed
btw. it works on win xp sp3
